Job Description:

Summary
A business critical role on the senior management team with a full Director level remit and responsibility for 20 plus people, focus will be on creating and shaping the medical organisation to roll out clinical programs in the UK and Ireland and assist in driving the company’s rapid expansion across Europe. Liaising with KOLs in the UK and in collaboration with the Director Clinical R&D and peers in other country organisations, you will develop innovative strategies for new and existing drugs and evaluate potential opportunities for in-licensing.

A fast growing company aiming to become a worldwide market leader in Cancer therapies, the organisation has a strong portfolio of pipeline products in addition to established therapeutic products.

Role
(MD) Medical Director (UK & Ireland)

Key aspects of the role
• act as a figurehead for all medical related areas in the UK and Ireland to develop and sustain consistent relationships with internal and external key customer groups. Personally develop and sustain excellent professional relationships with regulatory authorities
• liaise with companies, manufacturers, external investigators and agencies, clinical research organizations and internal customers, including pre-clinical development, regulatory affairs, drug safety, manufacturing/product development, sales and marketing
• plan, design, develop, monitor, oversee and manage Phases II through IV clinical programs within the UK and Ireland, primarily but not exclusively in Oncology and in line with EU strategy
• establish the presence and reputation of the company through thought leadership, influence on KOLs in fundamental issues affecting the industry and contribute to the advancement of the company
• implement strategy for the growth and development of the clinical function to support a strong virtual team across the European region
• establish a compelling vision for the medical and clinical organisation in the UK and Ireland in accordance with international strategy driving scientific product development and commercialisation activities
• ensure strong Oncology specific knowledge consistent with priorities at a local and regional level
• develop new and innovative strategies in close collaboration with other Medical Directors in Europe and the US related to regulatory and clinical use of new and existing pharmaceuticals
• interface with global science and marketing organisations to maximise lifecycle opportunities for products both locally and at a global level. Seek out and leverage opportunities for sharing knowledge and activities on a global basis
• review and input to potential in-licensing compounds
• manage Investigator Initiated study processes in Oncology in the UK and Ireland
• foster a leadership culture, which attracts, develops and retains high calibre candidates, helping to build and shape a scientific talent pool to drive the future successes of the international organisation

Experience
Candidates must have a track record in Medical Affairs and Clinical development gained within the pharmaceutical industry plus proven leadership ability. Additional experience in Pharmacovigilance/Risk Management is advantageous. Strong secondary care experience is preferred and all candidates must have a background in the science of Haematology/Oncology.

Qualifications
Candidates must be medically qualified and fully GMC registered. A post graduate medical qualification is preferred.
