Job Description: Summary
Excellent UK & Ireland Medical Director opportunity with full responsibility for Medical Affairs and Medical Information across all therapeutic areas. An ideal opportunity for a current Head of Medical Affairs or equivalent level position to step up to a strategic role with the UK affiliate of a global pharmaceutical company. You will work closely with the General Manager and Business Unit Directors plus the Marketing Directors based in the Swiss Head Office.

Key aspects of the role
• Take an active and challenging role as a key member of the UK and Ireland’s leadership team to ensure it meets and exceeds its goals
• Assess the current Medical Department and define strengths and weaknesses. Make a case for new headcount where necessary and recruit into position rapidly
• Devise and implement medical strategy consistent with the growth plans of the UK and Ireland affiliate
• Provide excellent medical department team leadership with personal development plans for all department staff
• Work closely with senior commercial and marketing management in the development of product strategies and provide strategic guidance and support on medical issues arising
• Provide proactive medical support for all marketing activities and ultimate responsibility for signing off all medical information and promotional material
• Devise and implement post-launch trials and investigator led studies
• Contribute to bi-annual pharmacovigilance and GCP audits
• Provide medical leadership in ensuring quality of current studies in the UK through regular audit
• Ensure close collaboration with colleagues in clinical development in Switzerland to ensure the optimal UK marketing platform for new products
• Make presentations at conferences and other relevant meetings
• Manage the medical budget (£5m) so that it is used as effectively as possible to create the best possible outcome for the company
Experience
Candidates must have previous experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry. Expertise in clinical development is desirable but not essential. A background in people management is essential.

Qualifications
Candidates must be medically qualified, fully GMC registered and preferably, have membership of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Physicians.
